Notice of Availability of Revised Annual Security and Fire Safety Report

Texas State University values the safety and welfare of all University community members. Each year, the University publishes an Annual Security and Fire Safety Report (ASFSR or Report), as required by the Clery Act. The Clery Act requires educational institutions to provide current students and employees with accurate, complete, and timely information about campus safety, security, and crime prevention policies, procedures, and programs. The Clery Act also requires the University to notify prospective students and employees of the availability of the ASFSR so they can request a copy of the report, if so desired.

Today, I write to provide you with a copy of Texas State’s revised 2019 ASFSR. The Report provides campus crime statistics for the San Marcos and the Round Rock Campuses for calendar years 2016, 2017 and 2018; policy statements regarding campus safety and security measures; descriptions of prevention and awareness programs; related university procedures and important guidance; and other essential safety information.

As part of Texas State’s comprehensive review of – and ongoing enhancements to – our Clery Act Compliance Program, we have made several important revisions to the ASFSR, including updates to crime statistics for the San Marcos Campus for calendar years 2016, 2017 and 2018, and revisions to policy statements required by the Clery Act. We are republishing the Report to ensure all University community members and prospective students and employees have access to the most updated information.

The ASFSR is available on the web at www.clery.txstate.edu/report. Individuals may request a paper copy of the ASFSR by contacting the Texas State University Police Department at the Nueces Building (615 N. LBJ Drive, San Marcos, TX 78666) or (512) 245-2805.

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce Kristina Morales, the University’s first Clery Act Compliance Specialist. Ms. Morales previously served as the University Police Clery Act Compliance Officer at Texas A&M International University. Ms. Morales will coordinate and oversee Texas State’s Clery Act Compliance Program and work in partnership with campus community members to promote and reinforce a university-wide commitment to these critical issues.
