Statements from Texas State University Regarding Incident on the San Marcos Campus

Earlier today some students gathered on the Quad of the Texas State University San Marcos campus in an anticipation of a planned demonstration by an outside group. To the university’s knowledge, no outside groups were on campus today but some students engaged in a heated discussion which unfortunately escalated into a physical altercation between two students. The incident resulted in four students being arrested on various charges. 

The students were escorted into the University Police Department and were transported to the Hays County jail for arraignment before a judge. 

There is an enhanced law enforcement presence on campus at this time and no further incidents have been reported.

The University Police Department and local law enforcement are on the scene of an incident in the Quad on the San Marcos Campus where four students have been arrested. This incident involves only students and no identified outside groups are involved. Law enforcement will continue to monitor. At this time there is no immediate threat to the campus.
