The Texas State University School of Music will host the 10th annual International Piano Festival June 1-9 in the Performing Arts Center, with a live recording of National Public Radio's "From the Top" at 7 p.m. on June 8.
Concerts and recitals are open to the public. Admission to guest artist recitals are $8 for general admission and $5 for Texas State students. All Rising Star Series recitals are free. Admission to the June 8 recording of "From the Top" is $40. Tickets can be purchased at www.txstatepresents.com.
NPR's "From the Top" will feature young TSIPF participants from around the world in a celebration of young musicians and the power of classical music. For more than a decade, 700,000 listeners have tuned in weekly to hear middle and high school students play with astonishing depth, style and enthusiasm. In interviews and in pre-produced audio portraits, they share stories about balancing life as a kid in America with their dedication to classical music.
From the Top may be listened to in the San Marcos area on KMFA-FM (Austin) and KPAC-FM (San Antonio).
This year's festival will feature dozens of young pianists who were selected through auditions to participate in a week of lessons, master classes, recitals, seminars and recreational activities. The festival is designed to foster students' artistic development and create an international network of musicians from varied backgrounds.
The TSIPF will feature two blind prize competitions, the Betty Dickinson Award and the Patrick W. Price Award. Both awards come with a full tuition prize to next year's TSIPF. The recipient of the Betty Dickinson Award will also be invited back to Texas State during the 2019-2020 academic year to present a recital.
Every day of the festival will feature concerts by guest artists and rising stars from all over the world that are open to the public. For a complete schedule of recitals and concerts, visit tsipf.com.
