New Bachelor’s Degrees, Master’s Degrees, Minors to launch Fall 2019

To meet workforce demand, Texas State is launching three new bachelor’s degree programs:

Bachelor's in civil engineering: Prepares graduates to work with monitoring sensors, communication systems, predictive analytics tools and infrastructure management technologies. The first of its kind in the state to have an emphasis on smart infrastructure technology. 

Bachelor’s in health sciences: Addresses the growing demand for health managers. Health managers are key to the delivery of healthcare services, responsible for the day-to-day operations in healthcare facilities to support clinicians in caring for patients.

Bachelor’s in public health: Prepares students to use specialized knowledge and skills for disease prevention, including epidemiology, environmental health, health disparities, health communications and social marketing. Graduates of this program will play a vital role in health promotion teams in public health agencies, industries and non-profit organizations.

New graduate degrees launching in fall 2019 include: 

Master’s in data analytics and information systems: Focuses on an emerging field that uniquely combines mathematical and statistical modeling, data visualization and information systems. These techniques are used to facilitate better informed decision making by managers, scientists and researchers. 

Master’s in marketing research and analysis: Marketing research and analysis are used by companies to link information about products, customers and markets to financial metrics like sales, margin and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. This is the first program of its kind in the region, and Texas State is only the second university in the state to offer the degree.

Master’s in Public Health Education and Promotion: Prepares students to complete the Certified Health Education Specialist exam offered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc., and for advanced careers in community and public health education settings. 

Minors launching this semester include: 

Undergraduate Minor in African American Studies: Provide a deeper understanding of the African diaspora, as well as the complex history, culture, and contributions of Africans and African Americans to society. The minor will be centered on history and culture. 

Undergraduate Minor in Public Health: Replaces the Health and Wellness Promotion minor, and facilitates development of knowledge and skills to promote health in public settings. 

Graduate Minor in Public Health Education and Promotion: Promotes improved human performance and quality of life through evidence-based educational, recreational and therapeutic interventions and programs.
