Air Force ROTC to dedicate cadet lounge to late alumnus, Vietnam veteran

The Air Force ROTC at Texas State University will dedicate the renovated cadet lounge to the late alumnus and  U.S. Air Force Major Sammie Don Hoff on Nov. 8.

The Hoff Lounge dedication will take place at 11 a.m. in Derrick Hall rooms 227 and 323. The event is free and open to the public. 

 Hoff graduated from Texas State in 1964 with a bachelor of business administration degree before entering the Air Force. On Aug. 30, 1966, the F-4C Phantom fighter/bomber Hoff and Captain Kenneth D. Robinson were flying over Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam, was hit by enemy fire. Both pilots were lost. On March 3, 1978, the Secretary of the Air Force approved a presumptive finding of death for Hoff, and his status was changed to Killed in Action/Body Not Recovered. On April 18, 1989, the Department of Defense announced that remains turned over by Vietnam in 1988 had been positively identified as those of Hoff and Robinson.

ROTC Detachment 840 is honoring Hoff as an alumnus and Vietnam veteran to preserve his memory within the organization. Hoff's widow, Elaine Gregory, will take part in the dedication.
