The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University has released the 2019 course dates for the Spring Lake Dive Authorization Course (DAC), which is an education course that serves as the gateway requirement for those interested in becoming volunteer divers at Spring Lake.

Formerly known as Diving for Science, the Spring Lake Dive Authorization Course was reintroduced by The Meadows Center in August 2014 with new scientific components integrated from the Spring Lake Management and Habitat Conservation Plans.

"This course offers divers the chance to use their scuba skills to help us manage and monitor Spring Lake, while at the same time enjoying dives in crystal clear water with constant temperature in one of the best freshwater dive sites in the state," Spring Lake Diving Coordinator Caleb Henderson said.

The 2019 course dates are:

  • January 5
  • January 19
  • February 23
  • March 16
  • April 13
  • April 27
  • May 11
  • May 25
  • June 22

Any diver who has an open water certification and a minimum of 20 logged dives is welcome to take the Spring Lake Dive Authorization Course. The course will consist of an online lecture component prior to arrival, a morning of academics and an afternoon of dive training to be completed in one day. Participants who successfully complete the course will become members of The Meadows Center AquaCorps.

Participants must be at least 15 years old at the time of taking the course and must provide their own equipment, including tanks and weights. The course fee is $230. Current Texas State students, faculty and staff receive a 50 percent discount on the course fee. Veterans, dive instructors and state employees receive a 25 percent discount.
