Fulbright scholar-in-residence to co-curate exhibit at Alkek Library

SAN MARCOS – Texas State University Fulbright scholar-in-residence Gökser Gökçay will co-curate an exhibit at the Albert B. Alkek Library on February 2.

The exhibit, called “Celebrating Cultural and Educational Exchanges between the U.S. & Turkey,” will be held in Alkek Library room 105/106 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Along with Gökçay, the exhibit is curated by Texas State collection development librarian Selene Hinojosa and outreach librarian Margaret Vaverek, librarian in the Alkek research, instruction and outreach department.

Gökçay, a historian of international relations, teaches about modern Turkey and global Cold War at Texas State as part of his Fulbright scholar-in-residence for the 2017-18 academic year. He studied in Turkey at Middle East Technical University, Ege University and at Dokuz Eylül University, where he earned his Ph.D. Prior to his Fulbright residence, Gökçay worked at Üsküdar University, in Turkey, as an assistant professor in the department of political science and international relations. Currently, his research focuses on Turkey’s history of development with regards to the Cold War.

The event is sponsored by the Alkek Library, the Office of the Assistant Vice President for International Affairs, the College of Fine Arts and Communication, the Honors College, the Center for Texas Music History and the Department of History.
