The new issue of Hillviews is now available in print and digital format. The digital issue is available at hillviews.txstate.edu.
The focus is food: cooking, selling, creating, eating, protecting, and recycling. We didn’t have to look far for stories, from the Department of Agriculture and the Ingram School of Engineering to the School of Family and Consumer Sciences. Then there is philosophy, which has a course about the ethics of eating meat; and how dining on campus has changed over the years. There are also alumni such as Carol Huntsberger, whose Quality Seafood has been an Austin landmark for decades; the Vrana brothers, Scott and Keith, who are the owners of Consolidated Mills Inc. in Houston; and Andy Russ who put his business degree to work for H-E-B grocery stores.
Also inside, meet John Edgell who is retiring after 50 years in math education. Edgell has seen many changes since joining Texas State in 1966. Coach Jody Stewart began at the university last fall. The new director of track and field knows that being a student-athlete can be exciting and overwhelming.
Hillviews, published three times a year, is distributed to members of the Alumni Association and the Family Association. The digital edition is available for free to everyone.
