In Brief: Texas State student awarded Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship

Texas State University student N’Deye Ndiaye has been awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of States' Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, to study or intern abroad during the Summer 2017 academic term.

Gilman scholars receive up to $5,000 to apply towards their study abroad or internship program costs. The program aims to diversify the students who study and intern abroad and the regions and countries where they go.

Ndiaye is a junior studying international relations, as well as economics and French. She will use the scholarship to study in Meknes, Morocco.

“I am very honored to receive the Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship,” Ndiaye said. “This award is granting me the opportunities to experience life and culture of another country. I will be able to learn not only in the class room but in the field of study I hope to be a part of, socioeconomic development.”

After her studies, Ndiaye will begin a service-learning program in Morocco.

“During the service-learning, I will work get the opportunity to interact with the Moroccan people directly, assisting with development projects and helping teach them valuable skills,” she said.
