Weather Statement for Monday, August 28

Dear Texas State Community,

While Tropical Storm Harvey continues to inundate the coastal region of Texas, its impact over the past weekend on Texas State’s campuses in San Marcos and Round Rock was limited primarily to minor water leaks in buildings and downed tree limbs. Maintenance crews are addressing those issues today, and the university is scheduled to begin its first day of fall classes on Tuesday, August, 29, 2017. Normal university operations for all staff and faculty also will resume on Tuesday, August 29.

We know that many Bobcats and their families from the Gulf Coast are still unable to travel because of the hazards associated with the tropical storm. The safety of our students, faculty and staff is our highest priority. Once students are able to safely travel to the university, they should contact their instructors to make arrangements for missed class work and assignments. Staff and faculty impacted by severe weather and who can’t make it to work should notify their appropriate supervisors.

Additionally, Texas State Athletics officials are working with their counterparts at Houston Baptist University on reaching a decision regarding the scheduled Saturday, September 2, football game. We will notify our fans as soon as a decision is reached.

Although more rain is forecast this week in San Marcos and Round Rock, no severe weather is predicted. As always, the university will be closely monitoring the weather and providing updates to the Texas State community as needed. Our thoughts are with all Texans who are being impacted by this severe weather event.
