State Capitol hosts 'Of Texas Rivers and Texas Art' author signing

Andrew Sansom, executive director of The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University, and Bill Reaves, of William Reaves and Sarah Foltz Fine Art, will hold a book signing event for the publication and traveling exhibition entitled Of Texas Rivers and Art at the ground floor rotunda of the state capitol building in Austin on Friday, July 14.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin with a presentation from the authors at 1 p.m., followed by a chance to purchase signed copies of the book. The exhibition features artwork of Texas landscapes from 20 different contemporary artists and will be on view at the state capitol until Tuesday, August 15.
Of Texas Rivers and Texas Art is a compilation of some of the finest contemporary river art detailing the gorgeous traits of Texas landscapes. The featured artwork comes from contemporary Texas artists, including Randy Bacon, Mary Baxter, David Caton, Margie Crisp, Keith Davis, Fidencio Duran, Jon Flaming, Charles Ford, Pat Gabriel, Hunter George, Billy Hassell, Lee Jamison, Robb Kendrick, Laura Lewis, William Montgomery, Noe Perez, Jeri Salter, Erik Sprohge, Debbie Stevens and William Young. Through this work, the authors provide not only the backgrounds and historical development of riverine themes in Texas art, they also reiterate the vital importance of water conservation and the role that rivers play as the lifeblood of the land.
Of Texas Rivers and Texas Art is the latest addition to the River Books, a series published by Texas A&M University Press and sponsored by The Meadows Center. This 24-book collection illustrates strategies and diverse approaches to river conservation and management. The exhibition next travels to the Witte Museum in San Antonio on September 2.
