Writer, activist Raj Patel to discuss population growth, food insecurity

Award-winning writer, academic and activist Raj Patel will speak at Texas State University’s Alkek Library on Thursday, October 20.

The talk will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Alkek Library’s teaching theatre, room 250.

Patel, the author of Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System and the New York Times bestselling The Value of Nothing, will discuss the question, “How do we feed growing world population despite limited resources?” The talk will coincide with World Food Day and Texas State’s 2016-2017 Common Experience theme, “A Century of Conflict.” Patel will explore the influence of technology, classism and the financial industry on current and historical food production, and address the interconnectedness of global conflict and food access.

The talk is sponsored by the School of Family and Consumer Sciences. It will be free of charge and open to the public.
