Texas State University’s master’s in counseling program has been named one of the top 10 programs in Texas by TopCounselingSchools.org.
Texas State ranks third on the list of top programs. TopCounselingSchools.org cites both the marriage, couple and family counseling and the school counseling degrees, calling them two of the top master’s in counseling degrees in Texas and highlighting the school counseling degree for particular praise. The school’s Institute of Play Therapy provides students pursuing the school counseling degree the opportunity to participate in experiential learning, as well as innovative research. Texas State’s methodology of integrating theory and research with field experience is also lauded in the ranking.
Stephen F. Austin State University heads the list, with the University of North Texas, the University of Houston-Victoria and St. Mary’s University rounding out the top five, along with Texas State.
TopCounselingSchools.org based its rankings on data provided by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Programs (CACREP). In particular, the site looked at schools’ program completion rate, job placement rate and licensing exam pass rate. Other factors included accreditation length, research productivity and tuition and fees.
