The Latin Music Studies area in Texas State University’s School of Music will present the 17th annual Feria del Mariachi festival May 7 at the Performing Arts Center.

There will be a matinee show offered at 4 p.m. and an evening show at 7:30 p.m. The box office will open one hour prior to each show. Doors will open 30 minutes before each performance begins.

The festival includes performances by winners of the middle school and high school Feria del Mariachi ensemble competition, a live performance by comedian Happy the Entertainer, a performance by the Voz de Oro recipient Eric Mauricio Torres and a concert by Texas State’s Mariachi Nueva Generación.

The Feria del Mariachi ensemble competition will be held 9 a.m.-2 p.m. the same day in the Performing Arts Center, determining which groups will go on to perform in the evening shows. Admission to the ensemble competition is not included with tickets to evening performances.

Orchestra level tickets for the performances are $25 for adults, $20 for students and seniors. Balcony level tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors. Tickets may be purchased online at www.txstatepresents.com or locally at Victory Cleaners, Lolita’s Café or Chepo’s restaurant in San Marcos.

Feria del Mariachi seeks to promote mariachi education and culture in schools and the community by exposing students to successful figures in the mariachi community and providing them a chance to meet other young musicians.
