Texas State University, in partnership with the city of San Marcos, has been awarded a Texas Environmental Excellence Award by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
The awards bring attention to the most innovative and effective projects that protect the state’s natural resources. This year’s winners will be recognized at a banquet held in their honor on May 4, as part of the TCEQ’s Environmental Trade Fair and Conference at the Austin Convention Center.
Texas State and San Marcos are being honored for efforts to protect and restore the San Marcos River.
"Along with interacting with our students, the greatest privilege of working at Texas State University is for the Meadows Center team to be stewards of the San Marcos Springs, a globally significant resource,” said Andrew Sansom, executive director at The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. “We are doubly privileged to partner with the City of San Marcos in protecting the resources of the springs and the headwaters of the San Marcos River. This work is led by Dr. Thom Hardy of Texas State and Melanie Howard of the City of San Marcos and we are very proud of them."
