In Brief: 'Opportunities with USDA' event comes to Texas State

The Office of Research Development at Texas State University and the United States Department of Agriculture's Hispanic-Serving Institutions National Program will host "Opportunities with USDA" for faculty, researchers and students May 7.

The event will run 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. in the LBJ Student Center ballroom.

The purpose of the event is to explore collaborations with USDA and other universities in an effort to increase competitiveness for grant awards and to foster opportunities for students. Several USDA agencies will be in attendance.  Each agency will give an overview of its locations in Texas, as well as information about its current projects, how it engages with universities, and how it sees forming partnerships and working with universities with respect to research, education and student/graduate placement.

Approximately 30 USDA representative are expected. Other institutions interested in exploring partnerships will also be in attendance, including Sam Houston State University, Lamar University, Alamo Colleges, St. Edward’s University, University of the Incarnate Word and Sul Ross State University.  

Additionally, about 15 student posters will be on display, as well as attendance from Texas State students who have been involved in the BGREEN project through the Ingram School of Engineering, the Department of Agriculture, and the Food Safety and Agroterrorism Training: Educating our Future Workforce (FATE) project.
