Spring 2015 issue of Hillviews now available for download

Health by Degrees, the spring 2015 issue of Hillviews, is now available in print and digital format. The free app can be downloaded on your smartphone, tablet or e-reader.

The focus is on the College of Health Professions – the people and programs that prepare students for careers in health care, the no. 1 field that is producing jobs in the U.S.  We’ve tapped into each of the departments. Stories highlight a comprehensive stuttering therapy program held each summer, a look at clinical laboratory science dubbed the “hidden profession,” a simulation exercise that matched the St. David’s NICU Transport Team with students in the Department of Respiratory Care, and an explanation of how health information management has become one of the hottest jobs in health care. 

The Doctor of Physical Therapy program introduces readers to five students who are switching from one career via the DPT program with an eye to another growing health industry. The nursing students from  St. David’s School of Nursing in Round Rock  traveled to Nicaragua to help some people in need.

The issue also includes alumni profiles of Rod Keller, CEO of Segway; Marc Pouhe, an Austin-based actor and a transplant recipient; and Jesse and Betty Luxton, who are giving back in a big way in their small town.     

Bobcat connections are explored with articles about students such as Benjamin Culpepper, who received a scholarship from alumnus Bobby Kanz; and Granger Studdard, a Bobcat baseball player with seven relatives who played college football in Austin, but his mom attended Texas State.    

Hillviews, published three times a year, is distributed to members of the Alumni Association and the Family Association. The digital edition – with extra content – is available free to everyone.
