In Brief: Texas State students selected for Costa Rica summer research program

Costa Rica will host 13 Texas State University students--11 undergraduate and two graduate--selected to attend a two-week summer research experience June 15- 26. 

All of the students are part of the United States Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture-funded "Food Safety and Agroterrorism Training: Educating Our Future Workforce" (FATE) grant. The FATE grant, housed in the Department of Agriculture at Texas State, enables students to gain a meaningful education through scholarships and USDA summer internships. 

While in Costa Rica the students will engage in experiential learning activities from coast to coast.  Students will visit with local producers of bananas, coffee, tilapia and other agriculture commodities and experience firsthand the sustainable practices in Costa Rican agriculture. The USDA-NIFA funded program is working closely with Earth University, Texas A&M University-Soltis Center and the CATIE-Tropical Agricultural Research and Higher Education Center.
