College of Education's Dickinson awarded Fulbright to Cambodia

Gail Dickinson, an associate professor in the College of Education at Texas State University, has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and do research at the Royal University of Phnom Penh in Cambodia during the 2015-2016 academic year.

Dickinson will teach graduate level courses at the Royal University of Phnom Penh and will work with Cambodian colleagues on faculty development at the secondary and post-secondary levels.

"The educational system [in Cambodia] is at a unique stage because there is intense pressure on the government to end corruption and one of the easiest areas to do that is the educational system," Dickinson said. "The new minister of education is working closely with the Royal University of Phnom Penh to introduce effective teaching methods and higher standards to the nation's teachers and professors. I will have the opportunity to influence science instruction at a national level."

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars, a division of the Institute of International Education. The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.
