Award-winning poet Brian Turner to read at Wittliff Collections

Award-winning author and poet Brian Turner will visit Texas State University for a book reading, question and answer session and signing at the Wittliff Collections Sept. 11 at 3:30 p.m. and at the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center in Kyle Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m.

The events are free and open to the public.

Turner is the author of two poetry collections, Phantom Noise and Here, Bullet, which won the 2005 Beatrice Hawley Award, the 2006 PEN Center USA Award and the 2007 Poets Prize. His memoir is My Life as a Foreign Country. Turner served in the United States Army for seven years, including one year as an infantry team leader in Iraq.

His poetry has appeared in Voices in Wartime, and he was featured in Operation Homecoming, a documentary of firsthand accounts of American servicemen and women. In 2009 Turner won a United States Artists Fellowship.

The event at is part of the Lindsey Literary Series and is sponsored by the Department of English at Texas State, the Burdine Johnson Foundation and the Wittliff Collections.
