Student awarded national Emerging Infectious Disease Fellowship

Texas State University senior Lindsey Coulter has been awarded an Emerging Infectious Disease Fellowship, one of only six awards made nationally in 2014.

Coulter, of Cedar Park, is scheduled to graduate in August with a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, and will begin the one-year fellowship later that month with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), based in Atlanta. Coulter was selected for the fellowship from a pool of 325 candidates. The fellowship, sponsored by the CDC and the Association of Public Health Laboratories, trains and prepares scientists for careers in public health laboratories and supports public health initiatives related to infectious disease research.

Coulter, who previously earned a bachelor’s degree in microbiology and a master’s degree in biology from Texas State, is the first student from the university to be awarded the fellowship.
