Texas State joins American Academic Research Institute in Iraq

Texas State University has been accepted as an institutional member of the American Academic Research Institute in Iraq (TAARII), established to promote scholarly research on and in Iraq and ancient Mesopotamia.

TAARII provides graduate and post-graduate fellowships for Americans to work on Iraq in as broad a range of disciplines as possible. It also has a fellowship program for Iraqi academics to aid them in carrying out research in Iraq. As part of its mission to promote scholarly research on Iraq and ancient Mesopotamia, TAARII hosts an annual conference. Elizabeth Bishop from the Department of History will represent Texas State, serving as a member of the TAARII board.

Other institutional members include Columbia University, Georgetown University and Harvard University. Texas State is the first institutional member from the state of Texas.
