Nora Lisa Cavazos, an international studies graduate student at Texas State University, recently completed an internship with the U.S. State Department's Permanent Mission to the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, NY.
Cavazos was one of seven participants in the program, and the only one from Texas. She served as an executive office intern for the 68th United Nations' General Assembly, where she worked under United States' ambassador while promoting democracy and American values.
At Texas State, Cavazos is active in the Model Arab League (MAL) where she has earned multiple awards at MAL competitions in California, Massachusetts and Texas. She travels with the MAL Feb. 15-16 to Houston, where the team will compete in the Bilateral U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce Regional University Arab League.
By participating in MAL, students learn about the Arab world's political priorities and sharpen their skills in diplomacy and public speech. Elizabeth Bishop, a member of the Department of History, mentors the MAL team at Texas State.
