The southeast portion of the University/LBJ Drive intersection will close early next week as work begins to reconstruct the intersection, reducing traffic to one lane westbound and closing University Drive at LBJ to eastbound traffic.
The temporary changes include:
- Traffic will be closed to eastbound through-traffic at Guadalupe and University, while allowing access to businesses in the block between Guadalupe and LBJ.
- Westbound traffic on University will be reduced to one lane between LBJ and Edward Gary.
- LBJ traffic will be detoured to Guadalupe, then to Hopkins Street, then to Edward Gary Street and then to University.
The intersection reconstruction will include sidewalks, underground utilities and paving work.
Construction work in this area will last three weeks and will be underway during the continued work on the east side of LBJ.
Once the work is complete along the east side of LBJ, expected in late August, construction will move to the northeast portion of the intersection of University and LBJ until mid-September.
Completion of all intersection work at LBJ and University is anticipated by the end of October.
This work is part of the $10.5 million Downtown Reconstruction Project which is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
