The National Endowment for the Arts has awarded Texas State University's Samuel Mungo a research grant toward production of an opera based on the life of Lady Bird Johnson.
The opera, tentatively titled Lady Bird, is scheduled for its world premier at Texas State in spring 2016. The composer is renowned opera composer Henry Mollicone, who wrote Texas State Opera’s 2013 world premiere, Children of the Sun, based on the story of the Virgin of Guadalupe. The libretto will be written by Sheldon Harnick, Pulitzer Prize laureate and author of Fiddler on the Roof.
