As a part of the new series of Discover Texas State events, Texas State University will host a summer camp fair 3:30-6:30 p.m. March 28 at the Undergraduate Academic Center, showcasing the dozens of summer camps and clinic services available.

Boko and the Texas State cheerleaders, exercise demonstrations, dancers and other performances will be featured at the festival-like event, which will also showcase the Undergraduate Academic Building, one of Texas State’s newest structures. The fair is open to the San Marcos and the I-35 corridor community.

"Hosting this event will give areas families an opportunity to learn more about the numerous high-quality youth camps offered Texas State," said Dann Brown, dean of University College. "Texas State provides a range of summer camps for different age groups and interests. Whether it’s athletic, academic or artistic, we have something for everyone."

The prevention of "educational summer lag" is another priority of the camp fair. The term "summer lag" refers to the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the course of summer vacation.

Texas State departments hosting summer camps will be on hand to provide information on each camp, including scholarship information. A wide variety of departments will participate, including the Human Heath and Performance, Campus Recreation Center, fine arts, athletics, Mathworks, college preparation and more. Health clinics that are open to the public, such as counseling, physical therapy sleep lab, and others will also participate.

The Office of Community Relations, along with the Human Resources Work Life Program and University College are partnering to support this event, which will target San Marcos, New Braunfels, Kyle and other area families and alumni.

Parking will be available at the Wood Street garage (next to Jones Dining Hall, and across the street from San Jacinto Hall).
