Texas State expects record crowd for annual high school IT symposium

More than 500 students and faculty from 23 high schools are expected to attend the 2013 Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) Information Technology Symposium Oct. 11 at Texas State University.

The symposium, held in the LBJ Student Center on campus, brings high school students to the Texas State campus for a day of presentations by IT professionals, industry exhibits, and student competitions. This event provides students the opportunity to meet and network with IT professionals and faculty, to visit a college campus and to explore the opportunities available for careers in the IT field.

For those students that already know they want to work in the technology field, competitions in MS Access, Excel, security, JAVA and PC support will challenge their knowledge. These competitions also give students practice for the annual UIL competitions.

Since 2007, the Department of Computer Information Systems & Quantitative Methods at Texas State, in conjunction with its student chapter of AITP, has hosted this annual high school IT Symposium. This event has grown every year and draws students from Houston, Austin, San Antonio and beyond. Last year, a record crowd of 250 attendees from 16 school participated, and the 2013 attendance looks to double that number.
