Carol Dochen honored with CASP Lifetime Achievement Award

Carol Dochen, assistant professor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and director of the Student Learning Assistance Center at Texas State University, received the College Academic Support Programs' (CASP) Lifetime Achievement Award Oct. 3 at the 32nd annual CASP conference in Amarillo.

The CASP Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest award given to developmental education professionals in higher education in Texas.

As a founding member and serving as the first and second president of the Texas Association for Developmental Education (TADE), Dochen helped shape and nurture the current CASP conference structure—combining the Texas Chapter of the College Reading and Learning Association and TADE into one conference—the nation's largest state conference within the field of developmental education and learning assistance.

Dochen has received four previous CASP awards for her presentations, has a CASP graduate student professional development scholarship named in her honor, and received the prestigious CASP Presidential Distinguished Service Award in 2011. She is currently a co-author of a national best-selling learning strategies textbook titled Academic Transformation: The Road to College Success published by Pearson Education.

Dochen was also recognized as a consummate advocate for students as a semi-finalist (placing in the top five) for the prestigious Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate Award presented in Dallas in 2004 at the annual conference on the First-Year Experience.
