Graduate student Carlos Mejia named prestigious CADRE Fellow

Texas State University graduate student Carlos Mejia was recently selected as a prestigious 2013-2014 CADRE Fellow for his academic pursuits in math education.

CADRE (Community for Advancing Discovery Research in Education) is a network for science, technology, engineering and mathematics researchers and is funded by the National Science Foundation’s Discovery Research K-12 program. The coveted fellowship offerings are known for drawing a highly competitive pool of applicants each year. Other recipients of 2013-2014 fellowships include students from Harvard University, Rutgers University and Columbia University.

Carlos’ studies, which seek to improve the quality of math education in schools and communities, were conducted with the guidance of Associate Professors Alejandra Sorto and Alexander White. Carlos will travel to Boston, Mass., Nov. 7-8 to formally accept his fellowship with CADRE.

His achievement reflects the significant role of students in establishing Texas State as a major research university.
