Singer-songwriter David Roth brings his inspirational style to Supple Folk Series

The Supple Folk Music series at Texas State University welcomes renowned guitarist and songwriter David Roth Wednesday, Dec. 4, as part of the Encore Performing Arts Series.

The event will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Price Seniors Center, located at 222 W. San Antonio St. in San Marcos.

Roth strikes many chords, hearts and minds with his unique songs, offbeat observations, moving stories, sense of the hilarious and powerful singing and subject matter. As singer, songwriter, recording artist, keynote speaker, workshop leader and instructor, Roth has earned top honors at premier songwriter competitions – Kerrville and Falcon Ridge, NY – and taken his music, experience and expertise to a wide variety of venues in this and other countries full-time for more than two decades.

Roth’s songs have found their way to Carnegie Hall, the United Nations, several Chicken Soup for the Soul books, the Kennedy Center, Peter, Paul, & Mary concerts, NASA’s Goddard Space Center ("Rocket Science" went up on the Space Shuttle Atlantis's May 2009 mission to repair the Hubble Telescope), the classic folk song book “Rise Up Singing,” and 10 CDs on the Wind River and Stockfisch (Germany) labels. Featured on many of Christine Lavin’s Rounder compilations, the former artist-in-residence at New York’s Omega Institute has also been a songwriting judge at Kerrville, Napa Valley, Calif., Tumbleweed, Wa., Eventide Arts, Mass., Avalon Festival, W.Va., and the South Florida Folk Festival.

General seating is $15 and is limited to 100. Ticket prices include a wine and cheese reception, as well as an artist meet-and-greet from 7-7:30 p.m.

The Supple Folk Music series, part of the Encore Performing Arts Series, was launched in 2003 by the late Texas State University President Jerry Supple and his wife Cathy, driven by their passion for the traditional American art form.
