The Texas State University School of Music Ensemble Series presents a salsa tribute concert in honor of the late “Queen of Salsa,” Celia Cruz, 7-9 p.m. Nov. 22 at the San Marcos High School Performing Arts Center.
Cruz, born in Havana, Cuba, embodied salsa and the Latin American sound. She played at the famous Cuban nightclub, the Tropicana, and recorded numerous albums during the “golden era of salsa.” In 2003, she passed away from brain cancer. Cruz’s last album, “La Negra Tiene,” posthumously won the album of the year award at Premio Lo Nuestro A La Musica Latina in 2003.
Guest artists Cita Rodriguez and Eddie Bermudez will perform along with Orquesta Cascabel, Orquesta Del Rio and Salsa Del Rio. The event is free and open to the public.
