Texas State prepares for spring commencement

Texas State is making preparations for six commencement ceremonies that will take place May 9, 10 and 11, all in Strahan Coliseum on campus.
Texas State President Denise Trauth will offer remarks at all six ceremonies. Approximately 4,500 Texas State students are candidates for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees this spring.
Candidates from the McCoy College of Business Administration and the University College will attend the ceremony to be held Thursday, May 9, at 10 a.m.
Candidates from the College of Education will attend the 2 p.m. ceremony on Thursday, May 9.
Candidates from the College of Liberal Arts departments of Anthropology, English, Geography, Modern Languages, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology will attend the ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 10.
Candidates from the College of Science and Engineering and the College of Liberal Arts’ Center for International Studies and departments of History and Political Science will attend the ceremony to be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 10.
Candidates from the College of Fine Arts and Communication will attend the 10 a.m. ceremony on Saturday, May 11.
Candidates from the College of Applied Arts and the College of Health Professions will attend the 2 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, May 11.
Patti Strickel Harrison will receive an honorary doctoral degree during the 10 a.m. ceremony on Saturday, May 11, making her the ninth person to be so honored by Texas State. Richard Cheatham, former dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication will offer remarks on Harrison’s behalf. Harrison is one of Texas State’s most generous benefactors, having contributed more than $11 million to the university.
While there is no substitute for attending a commencement ceremony in person, Texas State will stream the ceremonies live over the internet for friends and family members who are unable to attend.
