Texas State hosts 25th annual Communication Week conference

A professional political speech writer, an award-winning speaker about human relationships, celebrated authors, internationally recognized educators and a keynote address presented by a former president of the National Communication Association headline the 25th annual Communication Week at Texas State Feb. 25-March 1.
This annual event, sponsored by the Department of Communication Studies, brings nationally and internationally known speakers to the Texas State campus for a free series of lectures, seminars and workshops. All events will be in Centennial Hall.
Communication Week opens with Kozhi Sidney Makai, relationship expert and author of Puzzle Pieces speaking about interpersonal communication at 12:30 p.m., Feb. 25 in room 410. Distinguished scholar and Professor Emeritus Sandy Ragan from the University of Oklahoma discusses communication at the end of life at 12:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in room 103.
“For a quarter of a century we have been bringing distinguished speakers and authors to campus,” said Steven Beebe, chair of the Department of Communication Studies. “It is a special joy to present our 25th Communication Week to the San Marcos and Texas State communities.”
A Communication Week highlight is the Communication Studies Convocation that will occur 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in room GO2. Featured speaker will be Bruce E. Gronbeck, the A. Craig Baird Distinguished Professor Emeritus from the University of Iowa; Gronbeck is a former president of the National Communication Association. He was the keynote speaker at the first Communication Week convocation 25 years ago. Also at the convocation, Sean Horan will receive the Department of Communication Studies Distinguished Alumni Award. Horan is among the nation’s most prolific communication scholars. He will present a lecture, “The Angry Hug: Using Affection to Lie,” 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28 in room 103.
