Brigadier General Giovanni Tuck keynotes Texas State commencement

U.S. Air Force Brigadier General Giovanni K. Tuck will be the keynote speaker at one of four commencement ceremonies to be held Friday, Dec. 13, and Saturday, Dec. 14, at Texas State University.

All commencement ceremonies will be held in Strahan Coliseum.

Tuck will speak at the ceremony to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. Degree candidates from the College of Education and the College of Health Professions will attend that ceremony.

Gen. Tuck is the commander of the Defense Logistics Agency Energy, a primary level field activity of the Defense Logistics Agency at Fort Belvoir, Va. As commander, he is responsible for a $21 billion budget and for providing the Department of Defense and governmental agencies with comprehensive energy solutions directly supporting combatant commanders and their operations.

Previously, Gen. Tuck served as Commander, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, Southwest Asia. This composite wing included strike; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance; mobility; aeromedical evacuation; and command and control assets in support of operations New Dawn, Enduring Freedom and Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.

Gen. Tuck graduated from Texas State in 1987 with a bachelor of science degree in psychology. He earned a master of arts in international relations from Webster University (1995), a master of arts in national security and strategic studies from the Naval War College (2000), and a master of science in national security strategy from the National War College (2007). In 2011, he served as a senior executive fellow with the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass.

Texas State President Denise Trauth will offer remarks during the other three ceremonies.

Degree candidates from the College of Fine Arts and Communication and the College of Applied Arts will attend the ceremony to be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.

Degree candidates from the McCoy College of Business Administration and the College of Science and Engineering will attend the ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

Degree candidates from the College of Liberal Arts and University College will attend the ceremony to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

There are 2,939 candidates for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at Texas State this fall.

While there is no substitute for attending a commencement ceremony in person, Texas State will stream the ceremonies live over the internet for friends and family members who are unable to attend. If needed, Texas State will also provide overflow space for viewing the live stream of the ceremony.
