Wittliff Collections hosts pre-screening of PBS' 'Latino Americans'

The Wittliff Collections along with the Center for the Study of the Southwest at Texas State University will host a preview screening from the PBS documentary series "Latino Americans" Sept. 11.
The 40 minute screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the 7th floor of the Alkek Library on campus. The event, which is free and open to the public, will open with a 6 p.m. reception.
During Hispanic Heritage Month, PBS will air a six-part documentary on the history of Latinos in the United States from the 16th century through the present. The pre-screening of a 40-minute excerpt from the series made available by Austin's PBS affiliate, KLRU. A panel discussion regarding themes and issues raised by the documentary will follow the screening. Panelists include one of the series producers, award-winning documentarian John Valadez; Director of the Center for the Study of the Southwest Frank de la Teja; political science professor Emily Hanks; and history professor John McKiernan-Gonzalez.
