Meadows Center, Common Experience present 'A Water Odyssey'

The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment at Texas State University will partner with the Common Experience to present “A Water Odyssey: A Film Screening,” on April 22 from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Centennial Hall Teaching Theater, located on the Texas State campus.

The event will showcase three short documentaries, along with presentations from the filmmakers and scientists who produced the films. The showcase is free and open to the public.

The event will include a showing of “Yakona,” a 15-minute clip about the history of the San Marcos River, followed by a brief presentation by filmmakers Paul Collins, Anlo Sepulveda and Dean Brennan. There will also be a showing of “Yucatan Cenotes,” from the BBC’s Planet Earth: Caves, followed by a presentation by Sam Meacham of the Meadows Center about the work he has done to map these underwater caves. To conclude the event, there will be a showing of “The Unsinkable Henry Morgan,” a 30-minute Sundance documentary about the continuing legacy of Captain Henry Morgan and the quest to discover more, followed by a presentation by Fritz Hanselmann, chief underwater archeologist at the Meadows Center who is leading the search for Morgan’s lost shipwrecks off the coast of Panama.

The mission of the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment is to develop and promote programs and techniques for ensuring sustainable water resources for human needs, ecosystem health and economic development. The Meadows Center serves as an integrating mechanism for Texas State’s multidisciplinary expertise in aquatic resources.
