Kaitlin Hopkins directs adaptation of Tony-winning 'Urinetown'

Texas State University’s Department of Theater and Dance will present the spring musical, Urinetown, April 16-21 at 7:30 p.m. and April 21 at 2 p.m. on the main stage of the Theatre Center.

Directed by Kaitlin Hopkins, Urinetown is the Tony Award-winning tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. In a Gotham-like city, a 20-year drought has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides he's had enough, and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom. Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, Urinetown is a humorous satire in which no one is safe from scrutiny.

Tickets are $10 for general admission and $7 for students with a valid Texas State ID, and may be purchased beginning April 9 at the Texas State Box Office.

Box office hours are 10 a.m.-6 p.m. April 9-12, 10 a.m.-7:30 p.m. April 15-19, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. April 20 and 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. and 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. April 21.
