St. David's School of Nursing kicks off National Nurses Week

The St. David's School of Nursing at the Texas State University Round Rock campus will celebrate National Nurses Week May 6-12.

To honor nurses, St. David’s School of Nursing will hold an open house 11 a.m.-2 p.m. May 6 in the nursing building, located at 1555 University Blvd. in Round Rock. Events include a raffle, food donated by local restaurants, presentation of Nurse of the Year Award and the Friend of a St. David’s School of Nursing Award, a proclamation from the mayor of Round Rock, and viewing of research projects conducted by the students at the St. David’s School of Nursing.

Every year, National Nurses Week focuses attention on the diverse ways America's 3.1 million registered nurses work to save lives and to improve the health of millions of individuals. The observance begins with R.N. Recognition Day on May 6 and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.

This year, the American Nurses Association (ANA) has selected "Delivering Quality and Innovation in Patient Care" as the theme for 2013. From bedside nursing in hospitals and long-term care facilities to the halls of research institutions, state legislatures, and Congress, the depth and breadth of the nursing profession is meeting the expanding health care needs of American society.
