The Mathworks program at Texas State University-San Marcos is holding its 11th annual Mathworks Math Contest (MMC) Oct. 31.
This contest is free and open to all middle school students in the state of Texas. The test consists of 15 open-ended questions that are designed by Texas State math faculty.
Unlike other tests, the MMC is graded by the student’s shown work and not just the correct answer. Top-scorers in the MMC are invited to apply to the residential Junior Summer Math Camp program, a presitgious two-week summer math program held on the Texas State University campus. In addition, results in the MMC are used to help select the Mathworks team that competes in the international Primary Math World Contest.
Mathworks seeks to provide students with opportunities beyond what schools traditionally offer. Their camps and contests are engaging and provide high-level challenges to students of all mathematical backgrounds. In addition to enriched academic opportunities, students learn perseverance and build confidence.
