Texas State University-San Marcos will welcome fall 2012 residents to two newly-named residence halls, Gaillardia and Chautauqua Halls (part of the North Campus Housing Complex).
The two halls in the 189,448 square-foot complex consist of 306 residents each and are centrally located near the LBJ Student Center, Campus Recreation and academic areas like the Health Professions building.
Gaillardia and Chautauqua Halls are important components in the growth of the university, providing seminar space for learning, studying, living and support. This facility also supports continued “green” initiatives and work toward making the campus more sustainable.
The name "Gaillardia" is derived from the native Texas wildflower and is Texas State's school flower. Chautauqua Hall is named for a 19th century social movement that educated students while also entertaining them. A large tabernacle-like structure seating 1,500 people once occupied the pinnacle where Old Main stands now.
