National Geographic VP to deliver Grosvenor Distinguished Lecture

Danny Edelson, vice president for education of the National Geographic Society and executive director of the National Geographic Education Foundation, will present the 13th Annual Texas State University-San Marcos Grosvenor Distinguished Lecture March 22, at 7 p.m. in the Alkek Library Teaching Theater on campus.
Edelson is also a curriculum designer, software developer and educational researcher. Edelson has dedicated his career to improving geographic and geoscience education in both the United States and abroad. He has created educational materials for students of all ages and strongly encourages geographic literacy initiatives throughout the United States and Canada.
He has authored more than 50 papers in journals, edited books and conference proceedings including “My World GIS,” a geographic information system for grade six through college and “Investigations in Environmental Science,” a case-based environmental science textbook for high school students.
Edelson earned a Ph.D. in computer science, artificial intelligence from Northwestern University. He joined National Geographic in 2007 after teaching education and computer science at Northwestern University for 14 years. Edelson continues to create professional development for educators in addition to advocating on behalf of geographic education in policy discussions and grant-making opportunities.
