Flores named assistant vice president, Hillviews editor

Matt G. Flores has been named assistant vice president for advancement communications and managing editor of Hillviews magazine at Texas State University-San Marcos.
Flores will begin work at Texas State on April 2.
Flores has served as the assistant director of public affairs for the University of Texas System since late 2006. In that capacity, he served as media liaison and public affairs official, producing news releases, editorial columns, speeches, internal communications and newsletters.
Before joining the UT System office, Flores worked at the San Antonio Express-News for more than 19 years as a reporter and editor. Flores served as assistant city editor at the Express-News and, as a reporter, covered politics, higher education, courts, police, general assignments and state news for the newspaper.
Flores has also worked as a reporter for the Dallas Times Herald, as a guest lecturer at Central Michigan University and has served on the Texas State University Journalism Advisory Board. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin.
“Matt has had a multi-faceted career in communications,” said Barbara Breier, vice president of university advancement at Texas State. “He is also very familiar with the issues facing higher education in Texas. We believe he will be a valuable asset to our team at Texas State.”
Hillviews is Texas State’s award-winning university magazine. It is published every four months and is circulated to Texas State alumni, donors and friends.
Flores replaces T. Cay Rowe, who retired from the university in January.
