As job prospects for new graduates improve, Texas State University Career Services will kick off its spring season Wednesday, Feb. 1 at the LBJ Student Center Amphitheater.

The event, which takes place 10 a.m.-2 p.m., will feature music, giveaways and information about Career Services’ spring events and services. Event sponsors Kohl's, TTI, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Jason’s Deli and Performance Contracting Group will be on hand to discuss career and internship opportunities with students. Event giveaways are sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE), employers plan to hire 9.5 percent more new graduates in 2011-2012 than they did in 2010-2011. Combined with a Dec. drop in the overall unemployment rate to 8.5 percent, students’ chances of securing full-time employment upon graduating are increasing. The uptick in hiring is a welcome bright spot in the world of employment news.

Career Services is poised to help Texas State students gain a competitive edge in the job search process. A spring line-up including seven job and internship fairs, a host of on-campus interviewing opportunities for full-time and internship positions and employer information sessions, a revamped Job Search Boot Camp event and other programming will accompany the department’s ongoing career counseling, resume critique, mock interview and job and internship search services.
