Linda and Jerry Fields donate $1 million to fund Strutters Gallery at Bobcat Stadium

Linda Gregg Fields and Jerry Fields of Houston have donated $1 million to Texas State University to complete the funding for the Strutters Gallery, now under construction as part of the North End Zone Complex project at the university’s Bobcat Stadium. They have now donated a total of $1.35 million to the Strutters Gallery.

In recognition of the Fields’ generosity, the university will request that the Texas State University System Board of Regents name the gallery the Linda Gregg Fields Strutters Gallery. The request will be submitted to the Board at its regular meeting in May.

To be located on the ground floor of the complex, the Linda Gregg Fields Strutters Gallery will honor the accomplishments and dedication to the university of the Strutters precision dance team.

The Fieldses are among the university’s most generous benefactors. With their most recent donation, they have donated more than $11.6 million to Texas State. The West Side Stadium Complex at Bobcat Stadium is named for the couple.

“Once again, Jerry and Linda Fields have stepped forward and demonstrated their loyalty to Texas State,” said University President Denise Trauth. “They are true friends of the university and their generosity continues to make this a better place. They are proud, energetic and enthusiastic members of the Texas State family.”

Linda Fields graduated from Texas State in 1966. She is a native of San Marcos and a former Strutter. She currently serves on the Texas State University Development Foundation Board of Directors.

Jerry Fields is a 1969 business graduate of Texas State University. He is founder, chairman and chief executive officer of J.D. Fields and Co., a worldwide supplier of steel products.

“Jerry and I are proud to be able to give back to Texas State, and this particular cause is very close to our hearts. The Strutters are an enduring tradition of Texas State and they have represented this university admirably for many years. It is fitting that there should be a special place on campus that honors their history,” said Linda Fields.

The Strutters were the first precision dance team at a four-year university. They were founded in 1960 by Barbara Guinn Tidwell and are currently led by her successor, Susan Angell-Gonzalez. They are the largest precision dance team in the country and boast more than 3,000 alumnae. They have performed in 24 countries on four continents.
