Rep. Dan Branch to keynote fall commencement

Texas Rep. Dan Branch of Dallas will be the keynote speaker at one of four commencement ceremonies to be held Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15, at Texas State University.

All commencement ceremonies will be held in Strahan Coliseum.

Branch will speak at the ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15. Degree candidates from the College of Education and the College of Health Professions will attend that ceremony.

Branch was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2002. He is currently chairman of the House Committee on Higher Education, a member of the Legislative Budget Board and serves on the Calendars, Redistricting and Elections Committees. Before chairing the Higher Education committee, he chaired a select committee on education finance, and previously served on the Appropriations, Public Education and Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence Committees. He has led numerous efforts to reform education and fiscal policies in Texas.

Texas State President Denise Trauth will offer remarks during the other three ceremonies.

Degree candidates from the McCoy College of Business Administration and the College of Science and Engineering will attend the ceremony to be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14.

Degree candidates from the College of Liberal Arts and the University College will attend the ceremony to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.

Degree candidates from the College of Fine Arts and Communication and the College of Applied Arts will attend the ceremony to be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15.

There are 2,924 candidates for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees at Texas State this fall.

While there is no substitute for attending a commencement ceremony in person, Texas State will stream the ceremonies live over the internet for friends and family members who are unable to attend.
