Author Tim O’Brien to give reading at Texas State’s Wittliff Collections

The Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center and the Wittliff Collections at Texas State University-San Marcos will host a readings and book signings from award-winning author Tim O’Brien April 24 at 3:30 p.m.

O’Brien will speak and sign copies of his books at the Wittliff Collections located on the seventh floor of Alkek Library on the Texas State campus. The event is free and open to the public.

O’Brien is a Harvard University graduate and author of several books. He worked as a reporter at the Washington Post before launching his literary career with his memoir publication If I Die in a Combat Zone in 1973. His novel, Going After Cacciato, won the National Book Award in 1979. The Things They Carried was published in 1990 and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

O’Brien currently teaches fiction writing to MFA graduate students and he holds the endowed chair in creative writing at Texas State.

The event is sponsored by the Burdine Johnson Foundation, the Terese Kayser Literary Series, the Wiffliff Collections and the Texas State Department of English. Books will be available during and after the event through the University Bookstore.
