Rebecca Raphael named Distinguished Teaching Professor

Rebecca Raphael, associate professor of philosophy, has been appointed Distinguished Teaching Professor in the Humanities at Texas State University-San Marcos.

Raphael will implement a project that focuses on the intersection of religious studies and the humanities during her three-year appointment. Activities will include conferences, panels, Honors classes and faculty seminars.

Raphael joined the Texas State faculty in 1999. She holds a Ph.D. in religious studies from the University of Chicago and is author of Biblical Corpora: Representations of Disability in Hebrew Biblical Literature. In 2008, she was Visiting Fellow at the Yale Divinity School. Recognized by the College of Liberal Arts for her teaching excellence, Raphael has taught a wide array of courses in both philosophy and religious studies.

The Distinguished Teaching Professorship in the Humanities is funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
