Hehmsoth debuts two new compositions in April performances

Hank Hehmsoth, jazz artist/composer and faculty member in the School of Music at Texas State University-San Marcos, has two premier first performances in April.
Audiences will hear the first public performance of Freedom STOMP Apr 12, 7:30PM at the Mysterium for New Music in Evans Auditorium on the Texas State campus with free admission. Audiences will also hear the first public performance of Carlos 'n Charlie's April 17 at the 15th Annual Inside Out Steelband Festival, One World Theatre, performed by the Knights of Steel, one of the most respected steelbands in the country.

Hehmsoth's FreedomSTOMP composition was written specifically for the Common Experience theme for 2011-2012: "Freedoms: The First Amendment." The First Amendment protects the basic freedoms of religion, expression (speech), press, assembly and petition.
Carlos 'n Charlie's, performed by H Project, includes nine music faculty members, Keith Winking, Martin McCain, Kyle Johnson, Russel Haight, Mark Cruz, Hank Hehmsoth, Glen Rexache, Steve Summer, Rene Gonzales and Robert Lopez. Hehmsoth's composition received the JCOI Jazz Composers Orchestra Institute Special Recognition award in 2010 from Columbia University, an affiliate of the ACO American Composers Orchestra, and is published internationally by Drop6 Media, Inc.
This work was funded in part by the Composer Assistance Program of New Music USA, and is funded and supported in part by the City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division. Additional performances include "Island Day" at Riverbend Centre May 6 and McCallum High School May 17.
