Men Against Violence (MAV) at Texas State University-San Marcos and the Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center (HCWC) are hosting an event in the quad on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to raise awareness for RAINN Day.
The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network is a nationally funded program dedicated to spreading awareness and aid to those who have been victims of sexual assault.
“RAINN Day is a powerful vehicle to get accurate information to college students about preventing sexual violence and how to begin recovering from the crime,” RAINN President and Founder Scott Berkowitz said.
According to RAINN.org, someone in the U.S. is sexually assaulted every two minutes, and 80 percent of the victims are under age 30.
“It’s so important for victims of sexual violence to know that it is not their fault and that they are not alone," Berkowitz said.
MAV and the HCWC will be on campus to spread awareness and provide resources in recognition of RAINN Day. For more information, contact Health Promotion Services at healthpromo@txstate.edu. Victims of sexual assault can call the National Sexual Assault Hotline at (800) 656-HOPE.
