McCoy College Net Impact takes home ‘Chapter of Year’ award

Texas State University-San Marcos McCoy College of Business was awarded the Chapter of the Year award for undergraduate programs at the 2011 Net Impact Conference.

The annual conference was held in Portland, Ore., Oct. 27-29. The 19th annual conference brought together 2,600 students, professionals and members to discuss changing the world through business.

The McCoy College of Business was selected as one of seven chapter finalists to present at the conference, which included two undergraduate chapters, three graduate school chapters and two professional chapters. Business students Ani Aroian, Nicole Fisher and Natalie Rodriguez were dually judged based on judges’ scorecards and chapter leaders’ votes to claim the Chapter of the Year title.

Areas they were judged on included a presentation on Adopt a Spot, chapter projects, a roundtable discussion, membership numbers, management style and collaboration. Chapters of the Year were announced at the conclusion of the final day of the conference. The win marks the first time the 19-month-old Texas State chapter has taken home the prestigious title, having only been established since February of 2010.

McCoy College of Business was also asked during the conference to serve as a mentor for Net Impact Asia. A representative from the chapter had the Texas State trio re-enact their presentation in order to film it and take it back to China to show students an example of the kind of passion and projects a chapter needs. The Texas State chapter also currently mentors Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg in Germany and Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez in Chile. Exchange agreements allow foreign students from each school to attend meetings at Texas State and be a part of campus and community projects. Ideas return to Germany and Chile, and the Texas State chapter continues to mentor and answer questions in order to help the schools begin their chapters and grow their organizations. UAI out of Chile is set to launch its Net Impact chapter in 2012.

Net Impact represents a new generation of leaders spanning sectors and industries who are putting their business skills to work for a better world. There are currently 289 chapters established around the world with more than 20,000 members. The international organization’s mission is to mobilize a new generation of people to use their careers to drive transformational change in their workplaces and the world.
